Studio Art 1

classes for kids ages 8 yrs +

In Studio Art 1, students will work on “themes” together for the majority of their projects. These themes will explore realism, fantasy, conceptual, study, portrait, and impressionism. Each project will switch mediums and include watercolor, acrylic, pencil, colored pencil, and chalk pastel. Students will learn to incorporate lighting and proportions into their work.

This class will help students to understand how to find their details, and what details are important to a picture's development. Enjoy seasonal, creature, still life, scenery, and design in all of your projects.

Drawings and paintings in this class will typically take more than one class to complete. Students are encouraged to understand what makes a finished work, and how to add their personal flair.

Studio Art 2 & Independent Studies

(assessment required)

Studio Art 2 is a project based intermediate to advanced level life drawing class. Some projects are realism based while other projects push students to explore. Projects will vary from student chosen projects to instructor led projects; they will tend to take multiple weeks. Between finishing projects there are fundamental lessons to grow students' skills. Lessons can be, but are not limited to: timed contour drawing, clothed figure drawing, color theory exercises, and collaborative artwork.

During and after projects there are student based critiques where students learn how to critique artwork. Students will begin to consider composition, color theory, form, conceptual visualization, and how to think creatively. Mediums used: Oil based Colored Pencils, Watercolor Paint, Acrylic Paint, Graphite, Micron pens, Alcohol Markers, Chalk Pastels, Charcoal.
